MANY tears will be shed at Arrowfield Stud today (Tuesday), the Scone district property losing its iconic sire Redoute's Choice, who was humanely euthanized this morning at age 22.
By the great Danehill, Redoute's Choice - who spent almost two decades at Arrowfield, was reported to be suffering a mobility loss and which could not be restored despite intensive care by Arrowfield's veterinary and stallion staff.
"Redoute's Choice is such a big part of our lives, and right now it's hard to imagine Arrowfield without him," said Arrowfield's principal John Messara.
"I'm grateful to all my team, past and present, who are part of his story, especially those who have cared and worked with Redoute's Choice every day."
Following his four times Group 1 winning racing career, Redoute's Choice emerged as a potential champion stallion, a feat he later achieved on numerous times. He became the major inheritor of Danehill's "crown".
He became a sale-ring sensation with 79 yearlings selling for $1 million or more, has been a dominant sire of sires, and is on the verge of being champion broodmare sire.
Among Redoute's Choice's 34 Group 1 winners includes his current racing star The Autumn Sun, who has already reversed his place on the sire roster at Arrowfield, and who will stand alongside his champion sire son Snitzel, leading sire Not A Single Doubt, and youngsters Scissor Kick, and Pariah.
Redoute's Choice now has 22 stakes-siring sons, 10 of them also Group 1 sires.
"His legacy to Australian breeding and racing is immense."
