The Electoral Commission are continuing the counting of results for the state seat of Dubbo following Saturday's election.

Two candidate preferred counting continues in some polling places, early voting centres, ivote and postal votes with Nationals candidate Dugald Saunders on 52.58 per cent of the votes ahead of Independent Mathew Dickerson on 47.42 per cent.

The election was called on Tuesday afternoon by electoral analysts and the Liberal Party who gave the seat to the Nationals.

The results mean the coalition has been able to form a majority government.

However, Mr Dickerson said while he would be 'backing the Nationals' if he was a 'betting man' he was waiting for the final count to come in from the electoral commission before he would concede.

It is understood there will only be about 1500 votes between the two.

Mr Saunders said he would not accept the win until Mr Dickerson concedes or the final results come from the electoral commission.

The NSW electoral commission has commenced their check of the results.
