Around 1200 irrigators along with close to 140 trucks brought Albury's CBD to a standstill today, protesting against the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
The rally saw irrigators from basin communities struggling with a zero per cent water allocation travelling in convoy to Albury.
Organiser, Darcy Hare of Southern Riverina Irrigators said: "farmers aren't good at politics but we all took the time out of the day to come and protest because something needs to change."
Some of the frustration voiced at the rally was directed towards local Farrer MP, Sussan Ley, who spoke to irrigators in attendance.
Ms Ley said she would support pausing the plan if she felt that was what all the communities in her electorate wanted.
"I'd be fine with it but they don't, the Murrumbidgee doesn't, Coleambally doesn't and there's quite a few industries in the area where these people farm that don't want to pause the plan," Ms Ley said.
But rally organiser, Chris Brookes said today they handed Ms Ley a petition to pause the plan with 85,000 signatures.
"At some point she's going to have to listen to a large disgruntled section of the Farrer community," Mr Brooks said.
