An Angus steer from the Murrumburrah High School and Milton Angus stud has sold for $25,000 at the Schute Bell charity steer auction during the Sydney Royal Show on Friday.
For the eleventh year it was Sydney's Paul and Val Ferry who through his money behind the auction, which see all funds donated to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
The 624 kilogram steer, known as Murph, had rump and rib fat depths of 12 and nine millimetres and competed in the heavyweight open steer competition earlier in the day.
Speaking on behalf of Mr Ferry, his friend Gary Williamson said there was no budget.
"He was going to buy it," he said.
"It's just a thing in life to support a charity he likes."
The charity steer initiative began in 1994 when the idea of Keith Proser and Robert Ryan came to fruition.
This year's price was slightly back on the $66,000 paid in 2018.
