When Thomas Fogden was tasked with choosing a show heifer, his father told him: "she wouldn't be any good".
But he stuck to his guns and backed himself - a punt that paid off after the 19-month-old heifer took out best exhibit for Santa Gertrudis at Sydney Royal Cattle Show.
"I told him she would be right," Thomas said.
Nangaringa Naomi N659 was named junior and grand champion female by judge Gavin O'Brien who called her a "real class act" before securing best exhibit ahead of grand champion bull Yulgilbar Nevada N40 (AI) (P), Yulgilbar Pastoral Company.
An emotional Peter Fogden was overwhelmed with the win saying he did not expect a grand champion win with a heifer let alone best exhibit.
"She came from just a home-bred bull and cow, you don't get them often," Mr Fogden said.
"I'd love 100 of them."
