Grassy Creek has done it again in the Merino production class at Sydney Royal Show.
Last year it was a fourth prize ram by Grassy Creek 463 "Mundy", however the prestige stepped up a huge notch this year with the Corkhill family's grand champion medium wool ram taking the honours with a massive 587.5 points and also winning the ram two-to-four tooth class.
The ram had a liveweight of 112.5 kilograms and an eye muscle depth of 40.5 millimetres. The fleece weighed a massive 18.4kg of 17.9 micron wool returning a total fleece value of $309.58 with the skirted fleece valued at $257.77.
The highest scoring ewe came from a second-placed six-tooth fine wool Poll Merino ewes from the van Eyk family's Shalimar Park stud, Walcha, tallying 474 points.
This daughter of Westvale Mercenary, a Sydney grand champion, weighed 88kg live, but produced an 11kg fleece of 18.2 micron valued at $217.10 with the skirted fleece valued at $171.50.
Next best ram with a total of 561.5 points was the six-tooth reserve medium March shorn and reserve grand champion exhibited by Towonga stud, of Garry and Donna Kopp and family, Peak Hill.
This ram's 21 micron fleece weighed 18.8kg to return a total of $282.58 with the skirted fleece valued at $224.99.
The McLaren family's Nerstane stud, Woolbrook, picked up four places with their reserve grand champion fine-medium wool ewe runner-up to Shalimar Park. This ewe's 19.1 micron fleece weighing 9.5kg was valued at $184.15.
Nerstane also exhibited the equal runner-up in the ewe two-to-four tooth class with an 11.1kg fleece of 17.4 micron valued at $222. This ewe gained equal points to Greenland's reserve grand champion fine wool Merino ewe which was also the reserve junior champion (a two-tooth) with an 11.1kg fleece worth $220.59.
Greenland stud of the Alcock family, Bungarby, took out the two-to-four tooth ewe class with their second placed medium wool of 18.1 micron and fleece weight of 12.7kg worth a total of $229.22.
A six-tooth Merryville stud, Boorowa, ram awarded grand champion fine wool and grand champion Poll Merino ram weighing 122kg live and produced a 13.2kg fleece of 17.3 micron returning a total fleece value of $254.23.
Merryville's second placegetter in the two-to-four tooth class, the champion March shorn fine wool ram weighed 109kg and cut 15.5kg of 17.6 micron fleece returning $261.51.
