Despite a small number of exhibits in the Dorset Horn breed at the Sydney Royal Show, judge Peter Shepherd from Wheeo, Crookwell said a very good class was presented, with the grand champion ewe one of the best he'd seen in years.
Sue McGoldrick of Bimbadeen Park Stud, Coonabarabran was the only exhibitor. She was helped by St Lawrence's Primary School students who took charge of showing the sheep.
The grand champion ram was from the W J Dawkins Trophy class for a ram under one and a half years old and shorn not more than 21 days prior to judging. He was shown by year six student, Teagan Chapman who said it was her first time at Sydney.
Mr Shepherd said the ram was six to eight month's off maturity and had a nice length about him as well as good meat value.
The reserve champion ram came from the milk teeth class, showing wool as did the the grand champion ewe, which was presented by St Lawrence's Primary School's, Owen Fleming.
Mr Shepherd said it was a magnificent ewe with a beautiful head, shoulders and hindquarters.
Ms McGoldrick said the ewe was sired by one of their own, Bimbadeen Blue 8 and had been named champion at all the local shows it had entered in the north of the state.
The reserve champion was from the milk teeth, shorn class.
