It was once again a family affair in the Southdown ring of the Sydney Royal Show meat sheep judging, with Ross and Jeanette Wilson of Cotties Run, Bathurst going up against their grandson, Jake Webster, 15, of West-Ray, Bathurst.
But, this time it was Cotties Run that managed to come away with grand champion ram and ewe, their grandson's stud right behind them with the reserve grand champion for both categories.
Judge, Peter Shepherd, Wheeo, Crookwell said the grand champion ram, which was from the one to two year-old class, was awarded his prize due to his shoulders and maturity.
Also complimenting West-Ray's reserve champion ram from the same class.
"They were two very good solid rams, two good meat eaters, both of good size," Mr Shepherd said.
In the ewes, the grand champion was given to Cotties Run for their ewe from the one to two-year-old class.
The reserve champion was West-Ray's younger ewe from the milk teeth class and West-Ray also took out the younger group class, while Cotties Run was named first in the had the older group class for sheep over one-year-old.
Ross Wilson of Cotties Run said it was always enjoyable to show alongside their grandson, Jake Webster.
"We show to improve the breed and to see our grandsons improving better than we are is always pleasing, but it is sometimes nice to get one over them," Mr Wilson said.
