Mathew Hill of Victorian Hampshire Down stud Aurora Park said the 11 hour journey to Sydney was definitely worth it. The stud coming away with both the grand champion ram and ewe.
Judge Matt Sherwood, Murringo said both the winning ram and the ewe were a very similar type of sheep.
"They had a lot of length, a lot of muscle and just very structurally correct and that's what I'm after," Mr Sherwood said.
They competed against fellow Victorian stud, Boonong Park and Henty's Jurambula.
The grand champion ram was from the milk teeth, wool not exceeding 12 millimetres class, as was the reserve champion which was also from Aurora.
Mr Sherwood said the grand champion won his class because he had unbelievable length.
Mr Hill of Aurora Park said the ram was by his leading sire, 1503, who bred most the rams in his Sydney team.
"I've actually exported semen from the sire to North America and South America so I'm pretty happy with him," Mr Hill said.
"The ram that won grand champion today he might even be better than the ram prior, we'll see."
In the ewes, Aurora still managed to come away with the grand champion despite only entering in the twins class.
Mr Hill said it was the ewes first win, with her twin sister, presented alongside her usually taking the title.
The reserve grand champion ewe went to fellow Victorians, Kane Hildred and Bridget Leahy from Boonong Park, Langwarrin with their young ewe, in wool.
Ms Leahy said it was the ewe's first win for her class let alone being awarded the grand champion reserve.
