DEJA VU in the meat and dual purpose sheep interbreed supreme judging at Sydney Royal Show with the Gilmore family's Tattykeel Poll Dorset stud, Oberon.
Tattykeel cleaned-up in all four awards like it did on the same judging mats last year starting with the coveted Peter Taylor Memorial Perpetual Trophy group of a ram and two ewes.
Each of the 10 breeds judged days prior was represented in the line-up. Since the trophy's inception Tattykeel stud has won the award 20 times. Representing all breed judges, Poll Dorset judge Will Milroy, Range View stud, Pipers River, Tasmania, said Tatykeel's trio was a complete group.
"They are very even with the ram a fantastic weight for is age and the two ewes met up beautifully," he said.
Tattykeel's winning team were all sired by a Dubbo State Sheep Show grand champion, Tattykeel Jackpot, a son of Tattykeel Torque, a previous Sydney Royal champion. The ewes were embryo transfer (ET) sisters by Jackpot, the grand champion and a member of the stud's winning pair.
The Border Leicester breed placed second was represented by Normanhurst stud, Boorowa while third place went to White Suffolks represented by Baringa stud, Oberon.
Gilmore pair
John and Mavis Gilmore Perpetual Trophy for the best pair of all 10 breeds made up of both grand champion ram and ewe was also won by the Poll Dorset team of Tattykeel stud which took out the ram and ewe grand champion double for the seventh time.
This was the Tattykeel entries' first showing with Dubbo State Sheep Show their next quest.
White Suffolks' grand champion ram and ewe shown by the Gilmore family's Baringa stud, Oberon, were runners-up while Border Leicesters' Wattle Farm stud, Temora, was third.
Supreme awards
Tattykeel stud continued its and the Poll Dorset breed's clean-sweep by taking out both the supreme ram and ewe awards with their grand championship duo.
However, when it came to the supreme exhibit, they chose the Tattykeel ram described by Poll Dorset judge, Will Milroy, as a beautiful style of a sheep.
"When he paraded before me he claimed the floor and really stood out."
On behalf of Tattykeel stud, Graham Gilmore said the awards were all due to the combined effort of his family and the Tattykeel team.
