Cooma steers hit $1170

Landmark Cooma livestock account manager Damian Roach reported solid demand for the better types with restockers with feed or anticipating a break in the season keen to get stock.

"The quality was mixed, the heifers were showing the most signs of the dry times, yet the steers were in surprisingly good condition and presented very well," Mr Roach said.

Heavy yearling steers topped at $1170, making from 245c/kg to 260c/kg while among the weaner steers, Angus sold well with some 330kg calves of GD and JJ Platts topping at $950.

Excellent sales included six Angus steers sold by G Adams, Cooma for $1120 while S and I Browne sold 10 Angus steers for $1145.

The majority of the heavy end weaner steers made between 275c/kg to 284c/kg and Hereford calves with some weight topped at $770 but tailed off quickly.

"Light Hereford steers were the pick of the buying," Mr Roach thought.

"The majority of the steers went to Victoria with the odd pen heading to the Riverina."

Heifers varied in quality with the majority making between 200c/kg to 220c/kg.

The heavier end of the weaners topped at $650 while the few local orders held up the lighter end of the sale with some light heifers making up to 280c/kg, with the majority making between $350 to $450.

K and K Parry, Calypso Farm, Bunyan, sold six Angus heifers for $775.

Boller and Co director Chippy Boller reported a good quality yarding allowing for the season with a lot of interest for the lighter weight heifers.

"It got very interesting at the end when the young heifers sold at dear rates," he said.

Buyers came from northern NSW, the Riverina, southern NSW, the south coast and Victorian agents Landmark Leongatha had a very strong presence.

There were some local restockers operating on the lighter steers and heifers.

Chippy Boller of Boller and Co and the Landmark Cooma team of Myles Buchanan and Damien Roach with some help from Landmark Narrandera's Ryan Burden took the bids.
