The Australian Superfine Woolgrowers Association are holding their annual seminar and fleece competition prize winners dinner on May 18 in Armidale.
The seminar will be held at the UNE SMART Farm and will focus on current challenges and developments to meet those challenges.
Speakers have been drawn from the University of New England, Cooperative Research Centre for Sheep Industry Innovation (Sheep CRC), UQ Centre for Applied Climate Sciences, Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), and other specialists with enormous depth of knowledge of the industry.
The seminar will be of interest to all woolgrowers facing the current climate variability and pasture growth challenges.
Key topics will include presentations on those topics and tools developed by the Sheep CRC to manage on-farm given those challenges.
Other important updates will be delivered by AWI and the Sheep CRC on developments in genomic testing, the utilisation of genomic testing in the Merino Lifetime Productivity Project and key benefits.
Members will also hear about key research being conducted to develop the management of natural capital risk on-farm, updates on research on flystrike, wool biosecurity, smart tags and robotic shearing, and feedback from the recent 2019 IWTO Conference in Venice.
The day promises to bring together recent technological developments and practical demonstrations to manage your merino enterprise in challenging times and keep abreast of current issues.
The ASWGA members and guests, prize winners dinner will be held at Booloominbah Historic House on Saturday May 18 to celebrate the winners of the ASWGA National Fleece Competition.
Edington Merino Stud will host an on-farm visit on Sunday May 19 to discuss sheep breeding and ram selection.
