Held five times a day for the duration of the alpaca show at this year's Sydney Royal, the shearing competition drew a crowd of 200 to 300 people each time.
City slickers and farm folk alike enjoyed the spectacle of two teams going head-to-head in a competition focused less about speed and more on quality of cut.
Laura Fletcher of Fletchers Ark took out the Young Gun competition while New Zealand's Nigel Wood won the Open Class.
John Hay of Gunnamatta Alpacas is heavily involved in the show on the microphone.
He said the popularity of the shearing continued to grow after four years of competition.
"Usually we get close to 300 people at each shearing which is great," he said.
"It's good because very few people have seen an alpaca shorn.
"You can shear them like a sheep but it is not recommended.
"The spectators seem to enjoy the spectacle and grab a photo afterwards."
