A YLAD Living Soils customer at Ganmain has undertaken a down the tube fertiliser trial to evaluate the impact of different treatments on rhizosphere microorganisms, root development and plant health.
Processes such as aggregation, nutrient cycling, hydrology, and C-storage are jointly mediated by plants and soil organisms through interactions in the rhizosphere.
Over the years, the significance of rhizosphere contribution has generally been diminished by inputs and interventions.
The Ganmain farmer decided to evaluate things for himself.
The trial consisted of a control of MAP, YLAD Germinate Plus and a pelletised worm product.
The greatest root mass was achieved by Germinate Plus.
This trial will continue through to harvest when there will be a report on yield and quality results.
For 17 years, YLAD Living Soils has been promoting regenerative cropping with outstanding results showing an increase in soil carbon, reduced nitrogen top up, and higher yields with less pests and disease.
Rhonda Daly, co-founder of YLAD Living Soils, said that there is now an inexpensive home testing kit to evaluate if your soil or products being used are teeming with microbes.
"The Microbial BioMass Test is helping farmers in their decision making process," Mrs Daly said.
"Bill Daly at Milgadara, Young, tested the microbial biomass around the roots of his Wedgetail wheat with the reading coming back as 769.
"A reading of 600 is excellent so what Bill found by using Germinate Plus was incredible.
"This shows that as farmers we have the choice of using products that create the favourable environment for microbes to flourish or create a hostile environment for them to diminish."
Mrs Daly and the team at YLAD Living Soils are passionate about restoring soils to a balanced, healthy, biological alive system that will produce healthy plants, animals and people.
As co-founder of YLAD Living Soils, Mrs Daly is on a crusade to bring improved soil and human health solutions to the global environmental stage.
