The National Cutting Horse Association's Select Cutting Horse sale was held in Tamworth on Friday.
Of the 59 horses offered, 38 horses sold for an average of $14,185 with a clearance of 64 per cent.
The $58,000 top price ridden mare was Smart Lil Turpentine, by Dual Smart Rey out of well respected champion mare Turpentine Acres. She was bred by Turpentine Park Quarterhorses in Bordertown, South Australia and trained by Jamie Creek Jerilderie.
Purchaser Rodger Grant of Koobah Performance horses, Kingswood said his new acquisition was a spontaneous decision.
He had been chasing foundation mares to start his cutting business and said the mare would likely be used in embryo programs while still competing.
"I love her bloodline, I love the way she is bred, I love the type of horse she is," he said.
The second top price of $34,000 was reached for the yearling mare, MC Metallo, offered by Denise and Jessica Maccallum of Runnymede, Victoria, and purchased by Michael Hawke through Landmark Goulburn.
The sale was conducted by Davidson Cameron and Co.
