Vendors and buyers are preparing to make their way to Dubbo on June 18-19, for the third annual Red Angus and Simmental Sale and Show.
Bulls and females from a total of 10 Red Angus and 16 Simmental vendors from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland will be offered for sale.
The sale catalogue includes 32 Red Angus lots (26 bulls, 6 females) and 33 Simmental lots (21 bulls, 14 females). There will also be five Red Angus and 12 Simmental genetic lots up for sale, including a donated semen package by Goondoola for Red Angus bull KJHT PTO, which will be the first sale of this semen in Australia.
Topping last year's semen sale was 10 straws from Woonallee Las Vegas offered by Woonallee, for $600 a straw. Woonallee also topped the embryos for Woonallee Charo x MRL Missile for $1400 each selling to Elite Cattle Co, Meandarra, Queensland.
National show and sale chairman Lyal Llewellyn said despite tough conditions for producers, the sale would still attract quality cattle.
"This year we have the Sydney Show All Breeds Champion on offer, plus some other very good quality bulls," he said.
"Even though numbers are down, the quality will still be there."
It is the third year the sale has offered both breeds in a combined effort.
"One of the reasons we decided to hold the sale together is because they work well together. It's as good a cross as is going around," Mr Llewellyn said.
"The Red Angus hold their own in as far as improving the carcass in anything you put them over, while the Simmentals are great for breeding maternal females - they're superior for that."
Bootehill stud at Drouin South, Victoria, owned by Rob and Sandra Boote has kindly donated one pick of the 2018 drop heifers. First-time Red Angus vendors HNM Cattle Co/Karawi Hills stud based at Cowra purchased about four to five head in 2018, this year they will offer a calf from one of those cows. Valley Creek will sell a Simmental heifer that is the result of their purchase of the 2017 top priced embryos, which sold for $5000.
First-time vendors Ellendale stud, Queensland, will sell a Simmental calf at side of cow that won interbreed at the 2018 EKKA. Rellum Farms, South Australia, also first-time vendors, are helping out Grant High School prepare a Simmental bull, with all proceeds of his sale (lot 34) getting funnelled back into the school's agriculture program.
The genetics sale will be held online at AuctionsPlus, from 8pm on June 18. Live lots will be auctioned on June 19 at Dubbo Showground, by Landmark and Elders.
