THIRTY-TWO different bloodline combinations of 16 sires and the ewes participating in the Macquarie Merino Lifetime Productivity Project (MLP) were on display last Wednesday at Trangie Agricultural Research Station where more than 100 Merino sheep breeders and enthusiasts attended the annual field day.

The 10-year project funded by Australian Wool Innovation is a partnership with the Australian Sire Evaluation Association and at Trangie the NSW Department of Agriculture hosts the site with the Macquarie Sire Evaluation Association.

The project is designed to capture lifetime Merino ewe data and the field day was an opportunity to see and listen to results todate.

Speakers included NSW DPI MLP site manager, Dr Kathryn Egerton-Warburton who proved an overview and interpretation of results; AWI director, Don Macdonald, and Sarah Blumer of Murdoch University, Western Australia who spoke on research of maternal efficiency in Merinos.
