BUYERS at major sales around Australasia this year took note of the first stock by young horse Bull Point, a Fastnet Rock stallion who stands at Kingstar Farm near Denman.
They voted through their wallets.
A Bull Point colt fetched $110,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, another went for $100,000 at the New Zealand Karaka Yearling Sale, while at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale a colt made $80,000, and at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale one made $65,000.
This reads well for Bull Point's service fee of $7700, while his full-brother, Siege Of Quebec, will be beginning his stud career in Victoria at $13,200.
Bull Point (pictured) was a $960,000 top price at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and it would appear that his good looks and type has been passed onto his progeny.
A Group 3 winner, Siege Of Quebec - along with his brother Bull Point, are immediate relations to $7.3 million earner Criterion, a winner of seven races including the ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes-G1 and Australian Derby-G1.
As well the pair are almost a three-quarter-brother to Doomben Cup-G1 winner Comin' Through - earner of $1.8m, and Melbourne stakes winner Amah Rock.
Nestled in the female family are other stakes winners including Mica's Pride (dam of Group winners Criterion, Comin' Through and Varenna Miss, and Listed winner Silently, who is the dam of Group winner Muwaary), and others Moqueen and Najoom.
Also a Group winner, Bullpoint was a brilliant Randwick two-year-old debut winner, before taking the MRC Manfred Stakes-G3 as a three-year-old.
As a four-year-old, Bullpoint was twice-placed third in Group 1 races - these were the ATC Golden Rose, at Rosehill, and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, at Caulfield.
Bull Point's soundness also accredited the stallion with a runaway win over 1200 metres at Rosehill as a five-year-old.
It should be recalled that Bull Point's sire, Fastnet Rock, is also the sire of highly successful sire sons including Hinchinbrook and Smart Missile.
Bull Point stands alongside Lord Of The Sky - a $1.1m track earner who will stand his second season, and the proven Snitzel horse Salade.
A brilliant Melbourne sprinter winning three of its Group 3 races, Lord Of The Sky travelled to Sydney to take on its sprinting stars including the celebrated Chautauqua and Terravista in the ATC T J Smith Stakes-G1. That race turned into a spectacle with Lord Of The Sky splitting the pair in second spot.
Introducing a new Danehill sire-branch via excellent credentialed Danerich, Lord Of The Sky was also Group 1 placed in Adelaide.
Closely related to dual Group 1 winner and $2m earner Prized Icon, Salade is recalled as a brilliant winner of the ATC Pago Pago Stakes-G2 at a two-year-old when trained by the great Bart Cummings.
