Dubbo airport is now home to a new joint $2.3] million NSW State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) unit.
The state-of-the-art facility was officially opened by Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, with mayor Ben Shields, NSW SES acting commissioner Kyle Stewart, VRA Commissioner Mark Gibson and local state member Dugald Saunders.
The new Unit and will be home to two critical emergency service organisations within the Central West and Orana region.
The facility aims to improve efficiencies and collaboration of the two agencies which work closely together.
The new facility, funded by the NSW State Government, includes a 888m2 shed to accommodate emergency vehicles as well as a workshop and storage area. There is also an office building containing separate offices for the NSW SES and VRA as well as amenities, kitchen, all-inclusive training rooms and a dedicated car parking area.
"Volunteers from the NSW SES Dubbo City Unit work hard to save lives and protect their community," NSW SES Western Zone Commander David Monk said.
"This building will provide them with a secure base from which to train, to coordinate operations and for the storage of vital equipment."
This project was originally developed from a submission 2012 requesting a new headquarters for the NSW SES.
The relocation of the two organisations to the Airport further supports the emergency services precinct that currently exists with the Rural Fire Service State Mitigation Service, Orana Fire Control, The New Rural Fire Services Training Academy and The Royal Flying Doctors Service located adjacent to this development.
