CSU students host Women in Agriculture and Science networking event

Miss Goldworthy is a third year animal science student and Miss Glover is is in her fourth year of agricultural science.

Both are looking to the future, seeking potential career paths and creating opportunities to meet like-minded people in the same field.

They are planning an event for Influential Women in Science and Agriculture that will be held at the CSU Convention Centre on August 22 at 5.30pm.

"The evening has been arranged to celebrate female success in these traditionally male dominated fields," said Miss Goldworthy.

She said the event provided an ideal chance to bring students together with staff and influential women from various fields of agriculture and science.

Miss Glover said the cocktail evening was likely to attract around 150 people including students, lecturers and people from the scientific and rural industry.

She said it was early days yet but the intention was to make an event like this an annual fixture.

"We don't know of any events like this that have been run in the past in Wagga ... (although) there are quite a lot of networking events," she said.

The event, which costs $20, is already gaining traction on social media and the organisers are expecting plenty of strong interest.

The aim was to bring some of the rural leaders in the field of science and agriculture together so those who are still studying can network and potentially explore future career paths.

Miss Glover and Miss Goldworthy acknowledged that the amount of females studying agriculture and also being employed in the rural industry was growing but there were still some male dominated careers.
