In 1987 Jim "Pumper" Cassidy rode the Jack Denham-trained Heart Ruler to victory in the Australian Turf Club's Group 1 Metropolitan at Royal Randwick and was presented with a whip by Mr Jack Eaves.
This past weekend saw the legendary jockey and his Group 1 trophy head west to Cobar for the mining town's annual picnic races where he presented the whip to the day's most successful jockey, Caitlin King.
From the five races on the day, King, who travelled from Yinnar, Victoria, won the first race aboard Sam for Wagga Wagga trainer John Tyack and placed second on Nothing and third on Collins Street for Chris Heywood who also trains in Wagga Wagga.
The feature and last race of the day the DJW Constructions and Wells Ventilation Cobar Picnic Cup over 1700 metres was won by the Griffith-based, Russell Hogan-trained Cooee March and was ridden by Scone-based jockey Ashley Boyd who also won on his other ride for the day, Pullman Brown for Parkes trainer George Wright Jnr.
