A couple of excellent pens of cow and calf units were on offer at last Friday's store cattle sale where 216 head were yarded.
Despite the small numbers, some great quality cattle were penned by agents.
Weaner cattle made up the bulk of the yarding, selling to a top of $540 a head for Angus steers from the Coonamble district.
Buyers paid $300/head for the top pen of heifers, which was a pen of Hereford calves.
Angus/Santa Gertrudis cows with young calves by an Angus bull, topped the market at $1170 a unit.
The cows were on their second to fifth calves and were offered on behalf of the Bendiech family, Purlewaugh.
Another pen, from the same Purlewaugh vendor, made $1100.
Paul Dakin of P.T. Lord, Dakin and Associates, Dubbo, said there was fair inquiry from buyers looking to purchase cattle to capitalise on failed crops.
"Smart, young weaners were sought after by numerous restockers looking to buy quality lines at competitive prices," Mr Dakin said.
