Ardrossan Angus is a long established name in the Angus seedstock business and that showed on Wednesday with standing room left only, at their on-property sale at Talmalmo.
Rob and Sally Bulle offered a "Fit for purpose" line up of 97 bulls with 94 of them selling at auction for a 97 per cent clearance with the remaining three bulls sold immediately after the auction to clear the offering.
A sale average of $7155 was achieved.
Five bulls were also purchased by Michael and Jackie Clarke, Braidwood, after the sale that were uncatalogued.
The top price of $24,000 was gained for a 12-month-old son of S A V Initiative 4406, Ardrossan Initiative P318.
The young sire had estimated breed values (EBV's) of +5.3 for birth weight, +52 for 200- day weight, +101 for 400-day weight, +4.9 for eye muscle area (EMA), and intramuscular fat of +1.9.
Trevor Nash purchased on behalf of Betrola Investments, Cassilis.
Mr Nash said we purchased Ardrossan Initiative for his muscle and overall structure.
"He ticks all the boxes with performance, his ease of calving and his high Intramuscular Fat (IMF), he is an exceptional bull," he said.
The second top price bull, Ardrossan Legend P52 was purchased for $18,000 by Michael Gadd, The Glen Pastoral Company, Walwa, Victoria.
Mr Gadd has previously purchased Ardrossan genetics and this year his 12-month-old son of Clunie Range Legend L348, Ardrossan Legend P52 had EBV's of +59 for 200-day weight, IMF of +3.4 and a scrotal circumference of 36 centimeters.
Mr Gadd said, it is always good to find a bull that has the growth, muscling, and structure combined with the IMF percentage.
"Its the combination of those traits that really appeal to us," he said.
Return buyer were strong throughout the sale with Rob Whiteley, RJ Whiteley Transport, Cudgewa, Victoria, was the volume buyer of the day, purchasing nine bulls to a top of $8000 on three occasion with an average of $6000.
John, Veronica and Gavin Yensch, Holbrook, put together a draft of six bulls for a top of $6000 for an overall average of $4833.
Volume buying continued with buyers putting together four bulls were, Stuart Greenhill, Greenhill & Sons, Walwa, who averaged $7125, Adam Wheeler, manager of Towong Hill Station, Corryong, averaged $5000 and Schubert Boers, Albury, buying for their respective clients had an overall average of $3125.
Speaking after the sale, principal Rob Bulle said he was delighted with the results.
"It was extremely rewarding to see old and existing clients return to support our sale," he said.
"We had strong support with bulls staying around the local area as well as going into stud duties."
The sale was conducted by Corcoran Parker, Wodonga and Elders Albury with Justin Keane Corcoran Parker and Brett Shea, Elders sharing the rostrum with support online from Auction Plus.
