While the sudden gusts of wind and dust throughout the day provided a challenge for anyone with a hat, fascinator or even long hair for that matter, it did not dampen the overall atmosphere of the annual cup day races at the Mendooran Turf Club.
A few months ago a number of locals decided they would purchase their very own Winx with the aim of winning this year's Edwards Livestock Exports Mendooran Cup, which is run over 1200m.
Trainer Jane Clement from Tamworth was given the task of having their eight-year-old bay gelding, He's Our Toy Boy ready for the day while it was the Lake Windamere-based jockey, Anthony Cavallo who ensured he crossed the finish line first.
The locals also had success in the fashions on the field with Jack and Lily Beer, from Neilrex, named the best dressed juniors while Sophie Skinner, from Mendooran, the best-dressed teen and Jess Skinner from "Hiddendale", Binnaway, the best local.
The title of best dressed lady and gent went to Michele Myers from Mudgee and Richard Pym from Wentworth Falls.
