Talbragar Border Leicester's held its annual sale on Tuesday at Leadville.

The leading sire of the sale was Retallack 867.16 purchased by the stud in 2017 for $12,500, with five of his six sons selling under the hammer for an average of $900 and a top of $1100.

The stud sold two rams to a top of $1100, clearing 27 of 40 for a 68 percent clearance and average of $822.

The first one year old ram on offer, reached the $1100 top with a width of 92, a depth of 41, fat of 8 and eye muscle area of 29.04 square centimeters. He was sired by Retallack 867.16 and was a single lamb.

The second one year old ram to reach $1100 had a width of 89, a depth of 42, fat of 8 and eye muscle area of 28.78 square cm. He was sired by a homegrown Talbragar ram T66.14 and was a single lamb.

Both rams were secured by David Brazier of Old Nubrygyn, Euchareena who runs a commercial operation with a merino base, he uses the Border Leicester rams over the older ewes, turning the lambs off around seven months.

Mr Brazier has been buying from Talbragar for the past four years. The two rams were part of a draft of five rams purchased by Mr Brazier with an average of $860.

'They have a good body, frame and coverage on their back," he said.

Good carcase sheep which is what we tend to look for breeding for the first cross ewe market," he said.

Talbragar stud principal Ben Simmons was pleased with the results of the day given the tough conditions.

"Rams are the best they have ever looked, we have some new rams and genetics coming through with a good solid ewe base," he said.

With the progeny from the new ram selling well he was looking forward to next years sale. Mr Simmons was thankful for the support of repeat and new buyers.

The auction was conducted by Landmark.
