Merryville stud's 20th Annual On Property Sale reached a top of $5000 three times and averaged $2127, the Boorowa stud selling 119 of the 159 rams offered.
Stud principal, Wally Merriman said he was very pleased with the average.
"It's a case of what sold, sold for good money," Mr Merriman said.
"A lot of people are doing it hard with the drought and they haven't got the ewes to join to the rams."
Mr Merriman said the top-priced rams stood out for their deep-crimped, wide, lustrous wool.
The first ram that went under the hammer for $5000 was sold to the Davis family of Demondrille stud, Boorowa, repeat top-buyers.
The 24-month-old, Fine Superfine, August-shorn ram was sired by a Merryville stalwart, Brilliant Super Syndicate.
"The Brilliant Super's are an old Merryville family bred for superfine production for the Italian processing market," Mr Merriman said.
The ram had a greasy fleece weight of 3.4, 18.0 microns, standard deviation of 2.7, coefficient of variation of 15.0 and comfort factor of 99.6 per cent.
Purchaser, Patrick Davis, Demondrille said they chose the ram for his wool quality, skin type and structure.
"He has a really long staple, well-defined crimp on him and magnificent skin," Mr Davis said.
"He's not an overly long sheep but he's a really deep sheep.
"We'll pick out some fairly sizable ewes to put him over, that will just keep that wool quality and water-proof up with our sheep."
The second top-priced ram of the day was a 24-month-old poll ram purchased by The Due family of Avalon, Mangoplah.
The ram was sired by Willandra Desmond and had a GFW of 6.5, 18.3 microns, SD of 3.4, CV of 18.4 and CF of 99.1 per cent.
The final $5000 ram was a 12-month-old, Fine Medium, May-Shorn ram purchased by long-time client Frederic Mathieu of Checkers Pastoral Company, Cargo.
The ram was sired by Magnussen Syndicate and had a GFW of 4.5, 19.6 microns, SD of 2.6, CV of 13.1 and CF of 99.5 per cent.
Mr Merriman said the ram had rich wool for a Fine Medium.
"He's bred for more weight, more weight means more meat," Mr Merriman said.
His purchaser, Mr Mathieu said he thought the ram had the best wool in the draft.
"He's got the best nourished, lustrous wool, he's a simple ram and he's very long," Mr Mathieu said.
The ram was one of 12 Mr Mathieu purchased on the day for an average of $2979.
Other volume buyers included the Morse family of Spire View, Coonabarabran who purchased 13 rams from the superfine and fine families for an average of $1096.
Victorians, Girvan Lea Pty Ltd, Horsham purchased ten mostly poll, May-shorn, Fine and Fine Medium rams for an average of $3140.
The sale was conducted by Landmark and Elders with Rick Power and Steve Ridley taking the bids.
