A large number of cows and calves from the New England region of NSW contributed to the 4,011 head offering at Thursday's Wodonga Store Sale.
Brian Unthank livestock agent, Jim Hiscock said it was the largest line up of cows and calves that he'd seen at Wodonga for at least two years.
"That's down to the drought, most of them had a NSW postcode and a lot of them were from Tamworth and Barraba," Mr Hiscock said.
"We're seeing pass-ins on Auctions Plus, so these vendors have decided to send them to markets in greener districts.
"Northern NSW discussions are now will we go to Barnawartha or will we push on to Ballarat."
The best of the cows and calves were a line of 120 Herefords offered by Barraba vendors and sold locally for a top of $1400.
Corcoran Parker livestock agent, Bo Helwig said the tail of the cows and calves went for around $1100.
Heavy steers sold to dearer prices, with steers weighing more than 300kg mostly selling from $850 to $1300 a head.

J and P McLeod of Linton, Jingellic offered the best of the Herefords, with 48 steers, weighing 378kg making $1215.
Mr Hisock said they didn't see as many lighter steers as recent weeks which helped prices at that end of the market.
Steers weighing under 300kg sold from around $260 to $870 a head.
The heavy heifers also sold well, those over 300kg going for around $680 to $1130.
Wabba Downs, Cudgewar put forward one of the best lines of heifers, the top eight of their draft of approximately 40 Angus heifers, weighed 355kg and sold for $915 a head.
The Edwards family from Stroud offered close to 50 Angus heifers, the best of weighing 387kg and selling for $900.
Mr Helwig said the lighter heifer market didn't see as much demand and probably softened a little, heifers weighing under 300kg selling from $200 to $795 a head.
S and J Barclay of Tumbarumba offered 15 Angus heifers weighing 296kg which sold for $745.
SV and HJ Mahoney put forward a mix of 19 Angus or Hereford heifers with an average weight of 218kg. They sold for $500 a head.
Mr Helwig said the sale was well supported by buyers from Victoria's Gippsland and Western District
"They got us out of a bit of trouble but things will remain strong as long as it keeps raining," Mr Helwig said.
