The support of local buyers, some stretching several decades, pushed prices to $4600 during the Trynow Merino ram sale near Goolma on Monday.
Vendor Bill Honeysett was thankful in the current season that 27 of 40 rams were sold for an average of $1330.
He said 95 per cent of their buyers were from the local area with some repeat clients of 25 to 30 years.
"We sold more than we were expecting to sell," he said.
"It wasn't about the top price, it was about clearance.
"This year we were focusing on wool cut and structure compared to previous year. We are just trying to get a bigger framed sheep coming through."
The top price honours were reached when Greg Honeysett, Goolma, took home a son of Trynow250 who went back to RP715 for $4600.
The ram had a 16.2 micron fleece, standard deviation of 2.8, co-efficient variation of 17.6 and comfort factor of 100.
The thick wool cutter was appreciated by Bill Honeysett for his excellent structure and big bone.
In other sale results; repeat buyers Mark and Colin Doherty, Goolma, went home with a $3000 ram purchase.
The son of Trynow 63 who went back to RP4065 had a 16.7 micron fleece, standard deviation of 2.8, and comfort factor of 99.8.
Ian and Judy Haynes, Gulgong, were the bulk buyer on the day, securing six rams to a top of $2100.
Two new buyers, Len Paterson and Mudgee's Mark and Karen Croake were present on the day and both secured two rams each.
It was the first year the stud offered Poll rams after being approached by local clients chasing new genetics at affordable prices.
All three Poll lots sold for $800 each.
The sale was conducted by Landmark.
