Much has changed since the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW (the ASC) was first formed in 1929.
The strength of the 195 Agricultural Show Societies they oversee continues due to strategic planning towards sustainability.
Promoting excellence in agriculture through education and competition via these agricultural shows is an opportunity Tim Capp, Gresford, is excited to be continuing as he commences his three-year term as President of the ASC.
Mr Capp has been the chair of the horse, showgirl, rural achiever and education committees as well as vice president during his time with the ASC.
He also draws on his experience from membership with the Rural Lands Protection Board of NSW, Native Vegetation Committee, NSW Farmers Association and is currently president of Gresford Show.
Agricultural shows, as with many farmers and country towns, are doing it tough right now with the drought.
However, they are still an important source for education, through competition for agriculture industries, and also provide some relief for people to get together and remove themselves from the burdens of the drought for a little while.
"Recently I have met with government advisors to provide feedback and guidance on the $20 million Regional Agriculture Show Development Grants program," Mr Capp said.
"This program is aimed at maintaining, revitalizing and renewing infrastructure on showgrounds, not only for the use of the annual show but also for the wider local community.
"We will continue to represent our members ensuring we sustain and strengthen agricultural shows in NSW."
No other not-for-profit volunteer organisation in Australia has a larger network than the agricultural show movement.
Steeped in tradition, these volunteers' roles within their local communities continue to remain a vital asset to the strength, sustainability, promotion and education of agriculture in ever-changing times.
Ever evolving and changing, the ASC are confident the show movement will continue to work together to ensure the sustainability and growth of ag shows for the benefit of communities into the future.
