Baringa dominates show and sale

They clean-sweeped senior, junior and grand championships and reserves in the ewe section on the first day, then did the same on the second day in the ram section.

Judge, Matthew Sherwood, livestock manager Templemore Station, Muringo, chose the grand champion ewe as the supreme exhibit saying once he ewe the ewe stand against the ram he could see the type he was following and the ewe had tremendous length and great presence about her.

"She's a very exceptional sheep," he said.

Eleven of 34 rams sold to $4000 twice to average $2250 while one of 59 flock rams sold at $1000. Barings stud sold both sale-toppers.

All 13 stud ewes sold to $2000 to average $1423.

Breeders from South Australia, Queensland and NSW were successful purchasers.

The first ram to sell at $4000 was the 2017 drop class-winner bought by Rod and Gay Donnell, Beeamma, Western Flat below Bordertown, SA, who also paid $1000 for another ram from Koolstra Park stud of Karl Brown, Vittoria.

The Donnells also bought two stud ewes, paying to price at $2000 for Baringa's reserve champion ewe, plsu $1500 for an Ardess ewe offered by Robert and Toni Gilmore, Wongarbon.

Mr Donnell said he liked the scale and length of his equal top-priced purchase.

"He will do a lot for my ewes," he said.

"The ram is a proven sire, having already bred at Baringa, but I like their sheep having bought before at last year's Jamestown, SA, sale and that rams has bred beautiful ewes."

Gavin and Leanne Kelly, Kelly's Run, Crooked Corner between Bigga abd Binda, paid the other $4000 for Baringa's senior and grand champion ram.

They had a White Dorper flock and are now breeding up to Australian Whites with ewes now producing F3 lambs. This is their third Baringa sire.

"I'll join this ram to Australian White lambs," he said.

The sale was conducted by Landmark Stud Stock, Dubbo, with John Settree the auctioneer.
