A strong crowd of local buyers flocked to the Harper family's 44th annual Cadell Border Leicester Stud Sale held at Ariah Park on Friday.
The Harper family offered 24 of the 18 stud rams sold topping at $3500 for an average of $2205, 100 of the 120 flock rams offered sold for an average price of $1037
The Cadell 332-18 sale topper, sired by Cadell Trohan 9th from Cadell 257-15, had a Australian sheep breeding values (ASBVs) of 3.43 for weaning weight (WWT), a yearling weight (YWT) of 6.50 and a Border $ Index of 119.11.
Previously purchasing rams from the Cadell stud, Ryan and Greg Koschitzke, Brocklebury, were chasing a ram with carcase dimension, width on top and depth of carcase to him.
"He was the standout sheep in the sale," they said.
"We have previously bought a ram of this bloodline that has done well."
The second top price stud ram reached $2500 on four occasions with Cadell 417-18 and Cadell 67-18 both purchased by Elerada Parstoral, Corowa.
While Cadell 818-18 also reached second top money and was purchased by JE and A Schultz, Jindera.
RJ and DR Make, Barellan, also taking home a ram of the second top money with Cadell 684-18 a triplet son sired by Cadell Bonn 10th.
The ram had ASBVs of 3.51 for WWT, 5.15 for YWT, maternal weaning weight of 1.58 and Border $ index of 118.25.
The sale was conducted by agents in conjunction Elders and Landmark of Wagga with Joe Wilks and Peter Cabot the auctioneers.
