PROVIDING a one stop ram buying shop for sheep producers, the 7th annual Rosewood Poll Dorset and Jerradale Border Leicester stud's combined ram sale at Rye Park hit a $1650 top on Tuesday.
A Border Leicester ram from Geoff and Debbie Selmes Jerradale stud impressed sale attendees with his growth and outlook, and was snapped up for the $1650 sale top price.
Purchased by the Johnson family of Johnson Park Merinos, Boorowa, who consistently join 3000 ewes annually, the tag 171-18 ram was sired by a Retallack ram and weighed 94 kilograms in August with an eye muscle width (EMW) of 86mm, an eye muscle area (EMA) of 25.16 squared centimetres, fat depth of 5mm and index of 741.
Tom Johnson said it was the size and bloodlines of the ram that caught their eye.
"We have been on Jerradale blood for four years now," Mr Johnson said.
"We will be selling first-cross ewes of Jerradale blood in the first cross ewe sale at SELX, Yass, in November."
The Johnsons bought eight Border Leicester rams in total for a $1256 average.
Overall the Selmes cleared all 26 of their Border Leicester offering, for a 100 per cent clearance and $1117 average.
David and Elaine Sainsbury of Rosewood Poll Dorsets sold 65 out of 80 rams on offer for a 81 pc clearance, $989 average and $1500 top, twice.
Brian Anderson and family from Jessmondeen Pastoral Company, Crookwell, secured the two $1500 high-selling Poll Dorset rams to use within their sheep enterprise that joins about 7000 ewes annually across two properties.
Rosewood 146-18, a son of Abelene Park 176-12, was the first to make $1500. He weighed 128kg with ane EMW of 97mm, EMD of 47mm, EMA of 35.10 sq cm, fat depth of 8 and an index of 1147.
The second to make $1500 was Rosewood Park 197-18. By the $10,000 supreme champion winning sire Hillden 77-14 he weighed 134kg with an EMW of 93mm, EMD of 44mm, EMA of 31.51 sq cm, fat depth of 7mm and an index of 969.
Mr Anderson bought 14 rams, including 13 Poll Dorsets for an average of $1223 and one Border Leicester for $1300.
Return clients Webster Pastoral Company, Reids Flat, were the major volume buyers of the sale purchasing 20 Poll Dorset rams to average $855 across their draft.
Lumley Park, Bungonia, bought 11 Poll Dorsets for a $891 average, while Ledgeworth Partnership, Yass, bought five Poll Dorsets for a $920 average and five Border Leicesters for $960.
The sale was conducted by Delta Livestock and Property and Landmark with Tim Woodham, Landmark Wagga Wagga, as the auctioneer.
