They don't call Canberra the Bush Capital for nothing.
Where else would you manage to find a kangaroo hopping down one of the busiest streets in the centre of Canberra in broad daylight.
Dunlop resident Allison Lubransky-Moy captured a kangaroo bounding down Mort Street in Civic about 10am on Saturday, to the bemused looks of many passers by.
The three-second video, which has been shared widely on social media, shows the kangaroo hopping on the footpath before bouncing on to the road on Mort Street, passing a nearby construction site, before heading up towards Braddon.
Ms Lubransky-Moy told The Canberra Times she had been parked on Mort Street, when she saw a kangaroo hop down the street towards the Civic bus interchange.
"I was sitting in the car, and I saw something go past initially, but I thought it was a dog at first," she said.
"He bounded down towards the bus interchange, and stopped in the middle of the road, and that's when he started to hop back towards me."
The Dunlop resident said she had been surprised to see a kangaroo so close to the city.
"We were trying to work out where he had come from, whether it was from the Ainslie area or maybe even Haig Park," she said.
"You couldn't see it in the video, but there were lots of people near the construction site and on the footpath with their phones taking pictures and videos.
"It's not something you see every day."
It's not the first time a kangaroo has been spotted so close to city areas in Canberra.
A mob of almost 20 kangaroos was captured on video in August last year bounding down a street in Deakin.
It comes as wildlife experts say kangaroos are moving closer into urban areas in search of of food and water.
