SEEING a larger gallery of buyers than last year, the 42nd annual production sale for Englewood Park Poll Dorsets was held recently.
With 92 Poll Dorset rams selling to a top of $2050 and averaging $1165 there were also 17 White Suffolk rams offered to a top $1400 and averaging $997.
The top priced Poll Dorset ram was purchased by agent Charles Stewart, Colac on behalf of Lou Brindley, they also purchased two other rams for a draft average of $1950.
Return buyer, Les Rowe, Sutherlands Creek, purchased the top White Suffolk ram at $1400.
He took home two White Suffolk rams and four Poll Dorset rams in total to a top of $1200.
The day before the sale, Les sold 300 lambs at the Ballarat Lamb Market to a top of $230 who were sired by Englewood Park rams.
Two volume buyers both took home five rams each.
Jim Durham, Winchlesea, secured a draft top of $1200 to average $1200.
Whilst Russell and Michael Holmes, Inverleigh topped at $2000 and averaged a draft of $1740.
Stud principal Geoff Oliver felt that the sale was good even though there was an absence of some buyers due to the conditions.
"Due to the drought there was an absence of northern buyers which reflected on the sale, however this resulted in an opportunity for buyers to obtain rams at great value," he said.
"The early rams sold well, we are very happy with the sale."
HF Richardson and Charles Stewart were the settling agents with James Haddrick controlling the bids.
