Scores of swim records broken in Dubbo

Records fall at season's first swim meet in Dubbo

Record of 22 years' standing falls.

The Orana Aquatic Swimming Club from Dubbo held the first carnival of the season in the Western Area Swimming Association.

Of the two hundred odd swimmers who took to the water, eight two of them travelled from outside the western area for the day representing Gunnedah, Narrabri, Wee Waa, Tamworth, Scone, Muswellbrook, Lithgow, Bathurst, Manildra, Forbes, Parkes and Orange.

Even though it was the first carnival for the season some impressive times were swum with the majority of swimmers already improving on their personal best times from last season, while some even produced qualifying times for the upcoming NSW Country and State Age Championships which are held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre later in the season.

During the day 19 swimmers set 55 new meet records, with Bianca Fuller from Dubbo setting the most with an impressive total of nine records across all four stokes.

However, it was another Dubbo swimmer Sophie McAneney who broke the oldest record on the day, shaving 1.19 seconds of the 10 year old girls' 50-metre breaststroke record which was set by Carlie Suckley from Coonamble in 1998.
