THE 2018 The Land Machine of the Year winner Daryl Irving is pretty pleased with how his steel post straightener is performing in the open market.

"We've sold a few, nine in the past 12 months, but like all things the drought has slowed business down."

That said, the weekend's rain had helped. "Yep, I had another seven jobs booked by Monday night," he said.

He said five of the machines had gone to people looking to start contracting, visiting properties and cleaning up their posts at a set unit price.

"It's pretty good, it's recycling the steel and creating jobs, so I'm pretty pleased," said Mr Irving.

Big landholders, private companies, in Australia's north had also bought a few units, he said, and they'll be using the machines to pare back costs.

Mr Irving said he had a few more machines planned.
