A reduced yarding of 1760 cattle sold to a dearer market at the Elders and Landmark Wodonga Store Sale on Thursday.
There was a very small number of cows and calves in the draft, the tops selling to $1240 a unit for a pen of five Hereford cows and calves offered by Millswood, Holbrook and a pen of two Angus, Alpine blood, cows and calves offered by A C Turnbull, Tallangatta Valley, Victoria.
A good run of quality, black, heavy steers was offered. Landmark's Matt Pitzen said steers weighing 400 kilograms and above sold from between 295 cents per kilogram to 320c/kg, depending on quality.
The top price of $1470 a head was paid for a pen of 13 Hereford steers, weighing 475kg, offered by Ravensdale Rural Holdings, Holbrook. They were purchased by commission buyer, Peter Toohey.
There was a run of around 140 Angus steers offered by Mount Annan, Holbrook, the top pen of 52 Angus steers, weighed an average of 461kg and sold to $1445.
Mount Annan's second pen of 21 head, weighed 454kg and sold for $1380. Both lots were bought by Ravensworth Feedlot.
Mr Pitzen said there was a better runs of the black weaners this week.
"Some of those weaners made up to 349-350 cents a kilo, a few in the 330-340s or so," Mr Pitzen said.
John Ley, Jarvis Creek, Vic sold a run of 100 Angus steers also with Rennylea blood, the first pen of 25, weighing 386kg, sold for $1295 and the second pen of 50, weighing 358kg sold to $1215.
Mitchell Pastoral, Bethanga, Vic sold 17 Angus steers with Rennylea blood, weighing 426kg for $1315.
Upper Wantagong, Holbrook offered a run of Shorthorn steers weighing from 397 to 353kg. The top pen of 15 sold for $1205 and the second pen of 49, weighing 354kg sold for $1150.
A line of EU eligible Hereford steers were offered by Tarabah Livestock Company, Mount Narra Narra Station, Holbrook. A pen of 22 weighing 247kg selling to $695, bought by Mark Malacarne of Alex Scott Agents, Warragul.
Mr Pitzen said the heifers sold to a dearer market overall as well. Cassar and Edwards, Caromar, Deniliquin sold 13 Shorthorn heifers, weighing 417kg for $1175 and a second pen of 20 for $1050/hd.
Almac, Mudgegonga, Vic, offered 27 Angus heifers, weighing 369kg which sold to $1055.
