The nation's top shearers will converge on the central west of NSW for the Australian National Shearing Championships, chasing selection to represent their country.
Close to 200 shearers from six states are expected to compete in both shearing and wool handling over three days from November 28 to 30 at the Dubbo Showground.
The National Championships will see the cream of the country's shearing talent face off for a spot in the Australian team to compete internationally next year.
There is also a national wool handling competition which is held as part of the championship weekend.
Event organiser and a driving force behind the championships in Dubbo, Meg Bush is excited about the upcoming event.
"The National Shearing Championships are held once every year and it is great for Dubbo to be able to host it this year," Mrs Bush said.
"Last year's event was held as part of the Perth Show, so it is a pretty big deal for Dubbo to be the host for the first time.
"It brings a lot of people to the city. Around 30 people from each state are competing.
"They bring an entourage of friends and family which will see the event give the local economy a welcome boost. It is not only accommodation, we are hosting two dinners as well."
The first day of the championship is for the judges with shearing and wool handling workshops dominating proceedings.
Day 2 sees the holding of the Dubbo Shearing and Wool Handling Competition.
"Anyone can enter the local event," Mrs Bush said. "We invite those shearers and wool handlers from the state teams to participate.
"Prizes include money and trophies. After the competition, there is a presentation dinner which all are welcome to attend.
"The Nationals begin on Saturday with a presentation dinner later that night at the Dubbo Showground Expo Centre.
"Shearers and wool handlers will be fighting for a spot in the Australian team to compete in the Golden Shears at Masterton, New Zealand, from March 4 to 7, 2020."
