A yarding of 2077 mixed quality cattle sold to a dearer market at the Wodonga store sale on Thursday, with heifers attracting up to an extra 20 cents per kilogram.
Corcoran Parker livestock agent, Bo Helwig said there were around 200 light, Angus cattle offered by a Singleton vendor but the rest of the yarding was made up of local cattle.
He said cows and calves sold very well, the Parry family of Glengarry Pastoral Company, Sandigo sold 15 joined Angus cows, weighing 601kg for $1810/hd.
Mr Helwig said black cows and calves sold to around $1500 a unit.
John Cardwell, Mitta Mitta, Victoria of offered a line of mixed aged Hereford cows with calves at foot as part of a herd dispersal, the lead of them making $1400/unit and a second pen attracting $1200/unit.
Mr Helwig said there were few heavy steers offered and they made from 290c/kg to 310c/kg, most bought by local backgrounders with few feedlot cattle present.
The best run of Angus weaner steers made from 320c/kg to 330c/kg.
Nigel Brazier of Molong offered 24 well-bred Angus steer calves, not weaned, weighing 200kg which sold for $785/hd.
Hereford steers made up to 320c/kg. Lloyd Burdett, Tallangatta, Vic offered 30 Hereford steers, weighing 222kg for $845/hd.
Mr Helwig said heifers also sold well, the lead of the black heifers making between 270c/kg to 290c/kg, up to 20 cents dearer than a fortnight ago. While, lighter heifers sold for up to 320c/kg.
The top price was $1140, paid for a Hereford heifer, weighing 452kg, offered by AR and MT Wapling, Yackandandah, Vic.
He said the quality was down on previous sales with many vendors now looking to the annual weaner sales in January.
Most buyers were local but there were a few southern buyers in attendance for the first time.
Wodonga-based agents BUR, Rodwells Peter Ruaro, Schubert Boers and Corcoran Parker conducted the sale.
