FLEECES were coming off fast during each day of the three-day 2019 National Shearing and Wool Handling Championships at Dubbo showground last week.
The first day, last Thursday, was set for practice and workshops for all 200 blade and machine shearers, and wool handlers representing every state, plus the New Zealand team who came across the "Ditch" to compete in the Trans Tasman titles on Friday.
Local contests on Friday attracted 120 shearers and 65 wool handlers for the local competition while Saturday's national titles had 55 shearers and 37 wool handlers vie for the top Sports Shear Australia gongs.
Large crowds turned out on Friday and Saturday to watch and support competitors with organisers saying the Dubbo event was well above expectation.
