BIGGA district shearer and senior division member of the NSW national shearing team, Sam Picker, arrived at Dubbo to compete in the 2019 National Shearing Championships with a head very much full of hair as well as a beard last Thursday.
By Friday evening at the completion of the local tournament as a curtain-raiser for Saturday's big national event, his head was quite bare, all in the aid of raising funds for Herd of Hope.
Mr Picker of Hillcreston Merino stud, said he had recently lost a good friend waiting for an organ transplant and offered his locks at an auction during the dinner which raised $7500.
On Friday 65 wool handlers and 120 shearers from across Australia and New Zealand contested in the local competition while 37 wool handlers and 55 shearers competed for the national title in wool handling, machine shearing and blade shearing in front of large crowds on both days.
