It might not be hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground but for these outback kids the Mossgiel Hall cricket pitch is every bit as special.
The community hall, the heart of Mossgiel, is one two buildings left in the town (the other a house that was once the post office).
It has been used for meetings, field days, weddings, school of the air events and even birthday parties - but for the first time it's now home to junior cricket.
There are 11 registered players aged from four to eight-years-old who have signed up for the Woolworths' Blast Cricket program.
"Living remotely our kids don't have the opportunity to play weekend sport, so it's been great for them to learn," organiser Laura Stalley said.
"And the best thing about is that every parent helps out whether it's teaching them how to play or they are on the barbecue.
"People don't leave the farm as much as they should because of the drought, which is the main reason why we started it."
After the kids finish playing cricket in February, Mrs Stalley said she had approached Football Australia to send resources so the children could learn soccer skills.
"Ultimately we would like to get other sports happening like football, soccer and Little Athletics as our kids have to go away to train," she said.
"When we have approached all of these organisations they have been so welcoming to help us get grassroots cricket and football started, they have gone above and beyond."
