TOP quality Angus weaner steers were in demand and sold to a top of $1410 a head at the second day of the annual Wodonga weaner sales at Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange.
All up 3200 head were offered which included a select number of pens of older cattle at the start of the sale.
The supply of stock was back on pre-Christmas estimates, once again due to the Victorian bush fires.
The bulk of the yarding was from Victoria as some regular NSW vendors had already sold their stock at the end of last year or had opted to grow cattle out to heavier weights if they had feed.

Elders Albury agent Matt Tinkler said demand for the heavier steers weighing more than 400 kilograms meant they mostly sold from about 300 to 330 cents a kilogram, while the top of the heavy weaners made about 295c/kg to 305c/kg.
"The mid range of weaner steers from 340kg to 380kg sold from about 275c/kg to 300c/kg, but that was dependent on factors such as quality, size and if the cattle had been weaned," Mr Tinkler said.
He said the lighter lines sold well with some feature pens making from about 320c/kg to 330c/kg.
In the heifers, the better lines sold from 280c/kg to 290c/kg, while the generally run ranged from 255c/kg to 265c/kg.
AM Wallace from Porepunkah in north-east Victoria sold the top priced weaner steers (at $1410) which tipped the scales at an average of 460 kilograms.
The best presented pen of weaner steers was awarded to David McDonald and family from Macsway Pty Ltd, Rosewhite near Myrtleford, Vic, for a pen of 33, 426kg steers. These sold for $1270 a head together with their second pen next to it which were slightly heavier.
The top priced heifers were sold by Tim and Jessica Scott, Table Top Angus, Table Top, for $1180. These were well grown 429kg females by Table Top Angus bulls.
Another notable heifer sale were from AM Wallace, Porepunkah, who sold nine 443kg heifers for $1115 a head.
Graham and Christine Anderson, Friendship, Indigo Valley, sold a lovely pen of 20, 326kg heifers for $815 a head and these were also judged best presented pen of heifers. They also sold another pen of eight, 416kg heifers for $1050 a head. All up they sold 41 heifers and 23 steers which showcased the bloodlines of Table Top and Fernhill Angus.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Paull and Scollard Landmark.
