Stock & Land Beef Week is the nation's largest event of its type and is a low-cost, high value marketing opportunity.
- Geoff Phillips, Stock & Land Beef Week director
Stock & Land Beef Week, now in its 29th year, provides a critical service to the beef cattle industry by showcasing the genetics seedstock producers have available and providing commercial producers with the opportunity of selecting from some of the nation's leading seedstock herds.
Victoria and the Riverina boast some of the best, if not the best, British and European seedstock herds in the nation and most of those will open their gates during Stock & Land Beef Week 2020 as they have done for many years.
In fact some of these major studs have been in Stock & Land Beef Week since the beginning and rate the event as their major marketing activity each year.
Many of the studs in Stock & Land Beef Week have bulls for sale on their open day while the bigger operations display the bulls for their upcoming autumn on-property bull sales.
Potential buyers of bulls use the event to check out what is available.
Those with on-property auctions have sale catalogues available and bulls can be inspected and compared.
Many potential buyers then don't need to spend time traveling to a sale and rely on telephone bidding, AuctionsPlus and agents.
"I saw him during Beef Week and then bought him at the on-property auction by telephone," is a common point said by bull buyers post-sale.
Agents use Stock & Land Beef Week to visit numerous properties, gaining valuable knowledge of what's available for their bull buying clients. Visitors gain much knowledge from talking to stud masters and to agents to understand industry trends.
More than 5000 bulls will be on display and stud masters will be available to answer queries and give advice.
While some areas have been affected by fire, the event will still go ahead.
Thankfully only a handful of participating studs are in the fire zones and they may or may not be open due to damage and/or road closures.
If roads are open and it is safe to travel you are urged to visit and support these studs.
