Blustery conditions on the second day of the 12th ANZ Agribusiness Crookwell Merino ewe competition did not deter keen woolgrowers from visiting the flocks which were being judged by Georgia Walters, Dalgety and Alan McCormack, Gurrundah.
The versatility of the Merino was noted during the two days of competition when flocks entered had been raised in altitudes ranging from 500m above sea level to 1000m.
Also interesting to note the performance of Merinos on country types ranging from heavy basalt to light sandy granite and everything in between.
We also saw wool types vary from the traditional superfine Italian spinners type, through finewool and to bold medium fleeces.
Four flocks from each category - longwool and shortwool - were selected by the judges and they follow as announced.
Longwool -
Daniel Fitzell - Langdene-blood
Shannon Arnell - Thalaba/Bundaleer-blood
Brad Cartwright - Thalaba-blood
Brian Anderson - Hazeldean-blood
Shortwool -
Brian Lowe - Carrabungla-blood
Anthony Selmes - Royalla/Boudjah-blood
Michael and John Lowe - Royalla-blood
Graeme and Diane Hewitt - Carrabungla/Rogara-blood
Those eight flocks will be on display during the Crookwell Show when the placegetters will be announced.
