They've had 50 millimetres of rain and if they get another 50mm then the Webers "will be back in the business of farming".
The Weber family from "Fairlands", Walgett, have recorded 50mm of rain today - the first significant rainfall in four years.
"We are up to 50mm, which is pretty awesome and there is more coming," Helen Weber said.
"It's been gentle rain and it's seriously soaked right in."
Mrs Weber said they needed another 50mm to soak the whole profile because there was a severe moisture deficiency.
If that occurs then she said they would start preparing for a winter cropping program, the first they have done in three years.
"Then we will be back in the business of farming," she said.
For the last couple of years it's been incredibly dry on the Weber's property, with only 93mm falling on their parched land in 2019.
They have missed three years of planting crops and totally de-stocked about 18 months ago.
While they have been catching up on fencing, in the past two years Mrs Weber said her husband Greg had sowed nearly 1214 hectares (3000 acres) of Mitchell grass over grazing country in addition to 1214ha of native pasture that was already established.
"If we get another 50mm then that will take us closer to the ideal world and we should have 2428ha (6000 acres) of pristine native grasses," she said.
"Ultimately we will cheer if this results in floods, it's the only way Mother Nature can balance itself out."
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecaster Ellie Blandford said rainfall in the north west of NSW had been mainly associated with thunderstorm activity.
Ms Blandford said those inland areas would see similar conditions in the next couple of days with some showers and thunderstorm activity.
From 9am this morning Coffs Harbour recorded 79.4mm, Lightning Ridge 46mm, Collarenebri 44mm, Grafton 35.4mm, Mungindi 21mm, Cobar 17mm,
