NARRANMORE Poll Dorsets held their bi-annual ram sale under a promising grey sky last Friday at Elong Elong to a gathering of loyal mostly local buyers.
Offering 76 rams they sold 42 to a top of $1700 twice and averaging $1011.
With a solid start to the sale, return buyer Simon Archer, Moronga, Merrygoen was the winning bidder of the two top priced rams.
He also took home another ram at $1000 for a draft average of $1467.
"They were the pick of the pens and I thought I was very lucky to get them," Mr Archer said.
"We have been buying rams here since I can remember, they do a great job,
"We are always after the best growth rate we can get and these rams will let us do that."
Neil Pringle, "Elabah", Mullion Creek, was again the volume purchaser of the sale taking home 16 May 2018 drop rams.
"We are restocking our ewes and with the rain in the last fortnight we are trying to get all guns firing again," he said.
"We are running 2000 ewes at the moment and looking to increase that shortly,
"We join in the start of April so this sale suits our program."
His draft averaged $817 and topped at $1000.
Stud co-principal, Christine O'Leary knew it would be a difficult sale with the local ewe numbers still low.
"We are happy with the results that our clients are getting," she said.
"It was encouraging to see the volume buyer getting 16 rams and he is getting great results with earlier purchases,
"It has been a very pleasant day for the sale."
Angus Stuart from settling agents Milling Stuart, Dunedoo manned the rostrum. He felt the sale was very good despite the conditions.
"The rams were presented very well," he said.
"The draft was very even, there was no one real stand out,
"The O'Leary's are very happy."
