During the annual Crookwell Show held last weekend, the placegetters of the 12th annual ANZ Agribusiness Crookwell flock ewe competition were announced.
Judges for the event, Georgia Walters, Dalgety and Alan McCormack, Walwa Merinos, Gurrundah placed the Thalabah-blood flock of Brad Cartwright, Kempton, Laggan ahead of the 15 entrants.
The Kempton flock has been on Thalabah blood for 70 years and had been judged first in the longwool section, ahead of Daniel Fitzell, Flowerburn, Peelwood with Langdene-blood flock and third Shannon Arnell, Carinya, Laggan with Thalabah-blood flock.
In the shortwool section, Anthony Selmes, Glenayr, Biala was judged first with his Royalla/Boudjah-blood flock ahead of Graeme and Diane Hewitt, Wongalea, Crooked Corner with their Carrabungla/Rogara-blood flock and Michael Lowe, Innisvale, Crookwell with his Royalla-blood flock in third.
The Towalba-blood flock of Dave Culley, Woodbine Park, Grabben Gullen was presented the AWN Award, while Phil Mahoney, Sunnyside, Crookwell in his first year in the event was presented with the Future Development Award.
