Widespread soaking rain brought by ex-tropical cyclone Esther has filled dams and brought hope through many parts of western and central NSW.
The system started on Wednesday and heavy rain was still falling in some parts today.
Some stations north of Broken Hill have recorded over 70mm, and instead of it being in just a small area it seems to have spread quite widely throughout properties.
Top falls in last 24 hours include Fowlers Gap with 120mm, where the UNSW Arid Research Station saw its dam fill for the first time in two years.
Some areas have received rain equal to what they have received in the last two years.
Some good falls up until 9am Thursday include: Wanaaring 80mm, Bourke 49mm, Brewarrina 41mm, Hungerford 104mm, Hillston 54mm, Deniliquin 83mm and Urana, 63mm.
Many Western stations reported top falls including 210mm at Cymbric Vale, 55mm at Denian, 36mm at Moomba, 112mm at Floods Creek, 45mm at Palapah, 162mm Muella, 99.5mm at Grasmere and at Churinga there was 71mm of "beautiful, steady soaking rain".
The Riverina and South-West Slopes and Plains have enjoyed top falls including Griffith 28mm, Wagga Wagga 45mm, Yanco 72mm, West Wyalong 55mm and Cootamundra 51mm.
All these areas were getting more rain, some of it heavy today.
The dry area of Dubbo is also celebrating 40mm in the last two days and counting as of 3pm Thursday.
The Canberra district and the Central and Southern Tablelands including the Monaro have enjoyed a top up after recent heavy rain a few weeks ago. Braidwood that received nearly 500mm in that big rain event has so far received another 67mm by 3pm Thursday.
