Coronavirus precautions means there will be an altered program for the 33rd annual Wingham Beef Week.
All activities scheduled for Wingham Showground as part of Wingham Beef Week have been cancelled and instead the annual event will be a carcase only competition.
"It's been a bad year with fires and droughts, now the coronavirus topping the shows, is tough because shows is how we come together," Wingham Beef Week president Matt Martin told The Land.
Mr Martin said they would still run the carcase competition for those people who had fed cattle for the event.
"This is so they have somewhere to turn their cattle to, but we won't allow anyone on site to view the carcarse or cattle," he said.
In a Facebook post by Mr Martin on behalf of the committee, it states after "robust deliberation" the committee had made the decisions in the interest in public health and safety.
There will be no visits to Wingham Beef Exports plant be permitted other than to deliver stock (stock delivery to be aligned with NH Foods COVID 19 policy), the post states.
Breaking news: No more than 500 people at a time says chief medical officer
"When the details of the carcase competition are finalised, we will notify when entries can be made via nominate. We anticipate this will be by March 18," the statement said.
"We are proposing the carcase only competition to allow an avenue for exhibitors to still benefit from that side of the competition with the cattle they have been targeting for WBW 2020.
"Wingham Beef Exports have guaranteed a minimum grid price for each carcase class."
The Facebook post states that the Bob Jamieson Manildra Group School Steer Challenge will be a carcase only competition with the relevant schools to be contacted directly with the details.
The Charity Steer raffle will continue to raise funds for the Rural Fire Servcies.
Prizes and trophies will be allocated to classes and champions as normal with results from the carcase judging to be distributed as soon as possible after the judging.
"We would like to acknowledge our sponsors and supporters from the local community, who continued to back the event despite recent droughts and bushfires. Your ongoing commitment to the youth and agricultural industry is greatly appreciated," the post said.
"The Wingham Beef Week committee remain focused on ensuring education opportunities exist for youth in our area and would like to thank everyone for your support during this difficult decision."
